Ten Recommended, Bandcamp Picks.

Updated: May 12, 2020

Bandcamp are doing another two Fridays, where, they are waiving their fees for any sales on an artists page. So, every Monday until then, I will put together ten of my favourite artists, in the hope to inspire you to check them out. They're in no particular order, just click on their image to go directly to their Bandcamp store.

Dates for the Fee Free Fridays are

5th June & 3rd July

Peat & Diesel

Upbeat, energetic and just fantastic, high octane folk music, all the way from the Western Isles. Do yourself a favour, grab some tunes from Peat & Diesel, and put a smile on your face.

From their Website:

"The story began when three Stornoway Cove’s (Innes, Uilly and Boydie) met up in the house to have the craic on a Saturday nights playing music with just the Dog and the Cat watching."

Green Heron

One of my favourite Bluegrass / American Roots, duos around. Their sound is so positive and will brighten up your day.

From their Website:

"The music of Green Heron stretches across the entire folk landscape. Old-time, folk, bluegrass, country, Irish and blues music are all represented as the band brings the back porch to the stage."

Leonmanso

Want to expand your horizons beyond the English language? After all, good music knows no borders.

From his Website:

"Leonmanso, stage name of Llorenç Marquès Mercadal, is a Menorcan musician and singer who moves between folk, rock and pop, but who stands out for his sincere lyrics, often autobiographical"

Damh the Bard

You can get hold of the discography from the Legendary Bard himself. Take a step into a true Bard's world.

From his Website:

"Damh the Bard – is a modern-day Bard whose spirituality and love of folk tradition is expressed through his music, storytelling and poetry. Drawing on the Bardic tradition, his performances are both entertaining and educational, speaking directly to the heart, and never without a good splash of humour."

The Lowest Pair

Pick up their album 'The Perfect Plan', I described it as a masterpiece of American Roots; you won't regret it.

From their Website:

"Kendl Winter and Palmer T. Lee are two kindred spirits who first met on the banks of the Mississippi while touring the Midwest festival circuit."

Harbottle & Jonas

The pinnacle of 21st Century English Folk. They currently have a deal to buy their entire catalogue on Bandcamp.

From their Website:

"Partners in life and music, dynamic Devon duo Harbottle & Jonas are currently touring with their fourth and most ambitious album, 'The Sea Is My Brother'. Combining a love of the richness of traditional folk with their own original and powerful songwriting, the album's maritime theme is maintained across political, historical, and personal stories and songs."

Roly Witherow

You can check out and buy, Roly’s, new single and experience some amazing Progressive Folk.

From his Website:

"My debut album "Ballads and Yarns" is out now! Ballads and Yarns is a personal exploration of the folk tradition, bordering on Neofolk, experimental, art rock and sea shanties."

Edgelark

An amazing English folk duo, their entire back catalogue, as well as their solo albums are up on Bandcamp.

From their Website:

"Edgelarks began their musical journey together living in a small caravan in the hills near Exmouth, Devon. Phil had returned, Chaturangui in tow, from studying slide guitar in India with the master musician Pandit Debashish Bhattacharya. Hannah had grown up playing fiddle at traditional folk sessions."

Ordinary Elephant

An amazing Bluegrass / American Roots duo, whose music is deeply personal.

From their Website:

"International Folk Music Awards 2017 Artist of the Year Ordinary Elephant captivates audiences with their emotionally powerful and vulnerable songs, letting the listener know that they are not alone in this world.
The collaboration of husband and wife Pete and Crystal Damore, their connection, and their influences (such as Gillian Welch, Guy Clark, Anais Mitchell) all meet on stage."

Sugar Monkey

What to say about one of my favourite bands, Bluegrass / Folk / Progressive / Experimental and many more styles, all mixed together for an amazing experience.

You can buy their entire discography for a little over £3, cheaper than a cup of coffee.

From their Website:

"Sugar Monkey, a band brought together by a love of confectionery and a monkey. A scrumptious bunch of people who create a scrumptious bunch of original songs."
