Single Review – Underworld – Green Diesel – 2021
Well we are back with a quick single review of Underworld by Green Diesel. A Psychedelic Folk band from my old stomping ground, Kent. Green Diesel consists of some fine folk and they are:
Ellen Care – Lead Vocals, Violin
Paul Dadswell – Drums
Matt Dear – Lead Guitar, Vocals
Ben Holliday – Bass
Greg Ireland – Guitar, Bouzouki, Dulcimer, Mandolin, Keyboard, Percussion and Vocals.
The single itself is a mix of Psychedelic and Tradition with hints of Folk from the Middle Ages. That may sound strange but it brings a fresh breath of air to the sub-genre of Folk that often gets overlooked. For me it brings to mind Midlake and their amazing 'The Courage of Others'.
I can see myself at a festival in the woods being totally entranced by Green Diesel's otherworldly sound as there is something mesmerizing about Ellen Care's vocals. The way Underworld seems to drift across the soundscape, like a sudden Spring mist forming over the loch.
It's a good introduction to the often overlooked sub-genre and well worth a listen, and it puts me in hype mode for their full album 'After Comes The Dark'; which by the way is coming out on the 16th July (we will have a full review soon). In the meantime load up your favoutie streaming service and have a listen to 'Underworld' it's well worth it.
